This year, Hotel Peninsular celebrates 173 years of uninterrupted history in the city of Girona. Our story begins in 1852, when Pietro Nicolazzi, an Italian from Pella (Novara region), arrived in Girona fleeing a turbulent political context. In Girona, he opened the Fonda de Sant Antoni, which years later he would rename with its current name, Hotel Peninsular.

Today, the sixth generation of the Nicolazzi family continues to run the Hotel, an almost unprecedented fact in the hospitality sector in Europe. Hotel Peninsular is part of the Novara Hotels group, a name given as a tribute to the founding region of the Peninsular's founder.

The building occupies part of the former convent of Sant Francesc d'Assís, from the 13th century, and still preserves original architectural elements of the convent today, which are visible in common areas and rooms.
